Hazelnuts are originating from Turkey. Almost 75% of the total crop will be harvested in Turkey. Just as Almonds, Hazelnuts are growing in areas around the mediterranean sea. The main countries are Italy, Spain and some East- European countries.
The harvest of hazelnuts is one time a year and will took place in September and October. Nowadays the collection of the raw seeds is still been done manually.
Another similarity hazelnuts and almonds have is that they will be both used in the bakery industry. Those nuts will be used more frequently than other nuts. Companies will use the hazelnuts for further processing and make ice, creme, or paste from it. In addition, you will find hazelnuts also in different nuts mixes.
